How often should my pet have an exam and bloodwork?
It is recommended that for healthy young animals, that they be checked out by our doctors at least once a year in order to make sure there are no underlying health issues and that their vaccinations are kept current. Young animals and senior animals may need more frequent appointments due to the more demanding health concerns they present.
Why does my pet need a dental procedure?
Proper dental care can prevent the need for a dental procedure such as deep cleaning or extractions. If your pet is in need of one of these procedures it is important they have it done due to the possibility of harmful bacteria causing an infection which can be fatal if not treated.
How long should I wait to bring my pet in if I notice a change in behavior?
You should give our clinic a call as soon as you notice signs of a change in normal behaviors. It is a natural instinct of a pet to hide their pain, so if you notice a lack of appetite, lethargy, even aggressiveness, do not hesitate to call or stop by to see one of our doctors.
What are heartworms and how can I prevent my pet from getting them?
Heartworms are a parasite that is passed from an infected dog to a healthy dog via a mosquito. Treatment for heartworms can be lengthy and expensive. It is recommended that you prevent heartworms by giving your pet a preventative treatment such as monthly tablets or treats and even injectable medicines that last several months.
What financing options do you offer? Is payment expected at the time of service?
The policy of payment at Miss-Lou Veterinary Hospital is that payment is expected at time of service. This enables our clinic to keep up with the latest technologies and standards to provide the best service to you and your pets. If you are unable to pay at time of service, you can take advantage of Care Credit, a financing company that will help you with low monthly payments.
