Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a form of treatment for musculoskeletal injuries in horses that is non-invasive and safe for extended use. The treatment works by promoting increased healing through a shock wave therapy. This simply means that our unit produces an acoustic wave that stimulates blood circulation, bone growth, metabolism, and several other biological effects. A typical treatment plan includes a physical exam followed by several sessions of shockwave therapy. The average session is 5 to 10 minutes long, performed every 5 to 10 days. A healing period is given after treatment and some conditions may require a “boost” treatment after several months.
Some injuries and conditions that may benefit from Shock Wave Therapy include:
- • Tendon injuries
- • Ligament injuries
- • Chronic Back Pain
- • Kissing Spine
- • Osteoarthritis
- • Stress Fractures
- • Bucked Shins
- • Bursitis
- • Non-healing Wounds
- • Scar Tissue
